Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club board as they start the process of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
